Cliff House

2023
Architect: Serhii Hotvianskyi
Status: Concept

The project considers housing as an autonomous system capable of operating independently from external conditions.

The house is embedded within the rocky terrain of a coastal slope, juxtaposing the massiveness of the natural landscape with a light, almost dematerialized structure. The main volume is projected beyond the rock through a system of metal trusses acting as cantilevered elements, which also function as bridges — forming the only access to the house.

The spatial composition is organized as a closed perimeter that frames an inner water courtyard. The pool is integrated into the primary structural core anchored within the rock, allowing water to operate not only as a functional element but as a key spatial device. Its reflective surface mirrors the sky and horizon, visually dissolving the boundary between architecture and landscape.

Circulation through the house is conceived as a sequence of transitions: from the bridge — to the suspended volume — and further into an open internal space, where architecture is reduced to a minimal frame that captures the surrounding views.

The interior is defined by a monochromatic light palette that enhances the perception of spatial fluidity. Throughout the day, surfaces respond to changing natural light, transforming the perception of depth, materiality, and atmosphere. As a result, the house operates not as a static object, but as an environment continuously shaped by light, water, and horizon.
